Tips for Fun and Successful Costume Wedding

When thinking about the big day what people usually have in mind is not really a costume party. Classical weddings are completely fine for those who want to play it safe, but some of us have more exciting ideas on our minds. Weddings don’t happen that often in one’s life (well, hopefully not), so why not make that special day even more special and memorable? Costume weddings are a great way to entertain your guests and throw a fun party that will be talked about for a long time. If you share love for sports, historical figures, superheroes or even movies with your dear partner, here’re some great tips on how to express that love on your very special day.

Costume weddingBe certain about it. One of the most important things that a good relationship or marriage should be based on is certainly accord. In order to make such an important decision such as whether to have a costume wedding or not, you must both agree. Don’t push your partner if you see that he/she isn’t that keen on the idea. You don’t want to start your marriage off like that. Think about the reasons for having such a wedding. Is it really interesting to you or maybe you’re just doing it to impress someone or imitate some other wedding party that you’ve been to. Only if you’re both really excited about it, will the idea work and you’ll be able to pass that enthusiasm on to your guests.

An easy-going theme. Wedding is not about everyone marching to your command. You want this event to be pleasant and relaxing for everyone. Choose the theme with that in mind. Try to make it flexible so that most of the guests will be willing to participate. Bear in mind that you’ll have guest of all age, from children to grandparents, so pick a theme with a wide range of possibilities. Characters from fairytales might be a good example. Or maybe sports. If you choose a historical theme, for example, don’t be strict about whether that hat on your uncle’s head corresponds to the 18th century fashion. Everyone put an effort into their outfit, so as a host you must acknowledge that.

Three things about costumes.

  1. When you pick a theme, what’s important is to help your guests with their costume ideas. One of the easiest ways to help them is to find costumes online because not everyone has the time or skill to make their own. Do a little bit of research and offer them some affordable solutions.
  2. It would be nice if everyone would show up dressed like you planned but, hey, it’s not a perfect world and this probably won’t happen. So, be prepared for those who came unprepared by having some extra costumes just in case. Depending on the theme, sometimes just a piece of accessory can be enough to pull someone into the game.Costumed wedding guests
  3. Some of the guests who come without costumes maybe don’t agree with the idea or feel too silly to dress up according to your theme. Be nice to them and don’t criticize them for their decision. After all, you are all there to have a good time and celebrate what’s going to be a happy union.
